Kuari pass, cradled in the heart of snow capped Garhwal Himalayas, is located in Chamoli district within the hill state of Uttarakhand in India. Situated at an altitude of 3,565 meters above the sea level, this pass promises to enthrall visitors by its sheer magnificence. The Kuari Pass trek was first traversed in 1905 by Lord Curzon (hence also known as Curzon Trail) and is very popular among European and American Travelers.

 

The entire area is rich in exotic flora and fauna and be ready with your camera to catch a glimpse of bharal (blue sheep), Himalayan black beer or the multi colored Himalayan monla. The trail takes you through lush green fields, remote villages and virgin forests providing you with some of the most scenic Himalayan terrain. The close range view of Mt.Nanda Devi along with numerous other peaks is the reward that awaits the trekker atop the Kuari pass!

ITINERARY
 
Day 1 : ARRIVE DELHI  

Arrive Delhi. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Delhi combined with a visit to Akshar Dahm Temple.
Overnight.

 
Day 2 : DELHI – RISHIKESH 225 Kms (6-7 Hours)

“Rishikesh- The gateway to the Himalayas”. Located at a height of about 408 mts. above sea level it rests in the laps of the lower Himalayas and is surrounded by the scenic and unparalleled beauty of the hills on the three sides with holy Ganga flowing through it.

 
Day 3 : RISHIKESH- GHAT 220 Kms (6-7 Hours)

Morning after breakfast we drive to Ghat which is at an altitude of 1331 mts. Lunch enroute.
Night halt at Ghat. From here tomorrow our trek will start.

 
Day 4 : GHAT – RAMNI/GUNNI 10 Kms/15 Kms (6-7 Hours)

Starting our trek today we cover a distance of 10kms. To Ramni a small village at an altitude of 2550 mts. For the first half the trail goes along the river and then finally starts climbing from the river bottom, some parts being quite steep. We camp just above the fairly large village of Ramni in a nice grassy patch and visit the village in the evening.

 
Day 5 : RAMNI/GUNNI – JHANJHERNI 13 Kms (6-7 Hours)

Early in morning after breakfast we continue our trek to Kuari pass. Today we halt at Jhanjherni.
We stay in the tents tonight.

 
Day 6 : JHANJHERNI- PANARANI 12 Kms (6-7 Hours)

After breakfast we start our trek for Panarani (2450 mts). Overnight stay in tents.

 
Day 7 : PANARANI- SENATOIL 17 Kms (8 Hours)

We today move along the forests and meadows witnessing the spectacular view of the Mother Nature, and make a halt in Senatoil for the night camp in tents.

 
Day 8 : RAMANI (2550 M) - GHAT (1330 M) - RUDRAPRAYAG/SRINAGAR  

Trek 15 km (4-5 hrs) to reach Ghat. From Ghat drive down to Rudraprayag or Srinagar (5-6 hrs). Overnight in a tourist rest house.

 
Day 9 : KUARI PASS- AULI 24 Kms (8-9 Hours)

We start trekking from Kuari to Auli (2800 mts), in today's trek of 24 kms, we will en route cross the famous bugyals (meadows) of Gurson and will also get views of the route leading to the famous Nanda Devi sanctuary, along the Rishi Ganga. Overnight in tents..

 
Day 10 : AULI- JOSHIMATH 8 Kms (4-5 Hours)

We start our trek in the morning after breakfast to Joshimath, a town with religious significance. It is here the ninth century philosopher and saint, Adi Shankaracharya of Kerala, spent time in meditation. Here you will also see a 2500 year old cave that lies under a mulberry tree. We make a night halt here at the tourist guest house.

 
Day 11 : JOSHIMATH- RISHIKESH 250 Kms (8 Hours)

Early morning we drive back to Rishikesh.

 
Day 12 : RISHIKESH-DELHI 225 Kms (6-7 Hours)

Morning sight seeing tour of Rishikesh- visit the divine town, a walk along the Ganges Ghat and on the famous Laxman Jhoola. Afternoon drive to Delhi. Overnight

 
Day 13 : DEPART DELHI 250 Kms (8 Hours)

Transfer to International airport to connect the flight to onward destination.

PREPARING FOR THE TRIP
     

We will recommend that you start walking for about 30 minutes everyday about a week or ten days before you come on the trip. It would be nice if you could do uphill walking. Along with this you should do stretches for various parts of your body. Special attention should be paid to your leg muscles. Squatting is a highly recommended exercise.

Carry your stuff in a duffel bag, soft shoulder bag or a rucksack. Avoid suitcases, trolleys or any other hard luggage. Also carry a small knapsack to carry your personal items like cameras, water bottles, etc. while walking during the day. Each person should carry a maximum of 15 kgs of luggage on the trek.
