Every place that one visits in the majestic Himalayas, echo’s of its discovery and mythological tale. Valley of Flowers, the name is self descriptive and surely makes you imagine a full bloomed valley with wild flowers all around – Boom you got it right, it indeed is one like so.

Situated in the Gharhwal Himalayas, it has a magnificent vista and is a world heritage site. It was in 1931 the Frank Smythe who discovered Valley of Flowers on his descent from Kamet. The valley is remowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty. With more than 300 species of wild flowers, the valley spreads over an area of 87.5 sq km at an altitude of 3,250m -6750m. The legendary Ramayana describes the Valley as the place fro where Sanjivini Booti was brought by Hanuman to cure Lakshmana injured by Indrajit (Ravana’ son)

Hemkund (4329m/ 14200ft) “Lake of Solace”, is a sacred lake worshiped by both the Hindus and the Sikhs and during the months of July-August is surrounded by Brahma-Kamal flowers (lotus, saussurea, gossypiphora). The ancient lake also called Lokpal after Ram’s younger brother Laxman, who meditated here.
For Sikhs it is holy with its description in their holy script Dasham Granth , as a place where Guru Govind Singh meditated in his last days.
